Our 8‑Application Program, Timed for Nesbit

Timing is most of the job. These windows come from Mississippi State research for north Mississippi, miss them and you spend the year chasing weeds you could have prevented.

Visit 1 · Jan, Feb

We clear out winter weeds, chickweed, henbit, and sticker weed, while they are still small, and lay down a barrier that stops spring weeds before they come up.

Visit 2 · Feb, Mar

Crabgrass prevention. Mississippi State puts the window at February to mid‑March and tells the northern counties to aim for the back half of it, so early to mid March here. Get it down then and you are not fighting crabgrass all summer.

Visit 3 · Apr, May

First feeding of the year, at a rate matched to your actual lot size. A half‑acre yard and a three‑acre yard are not the same job, and they should not get the same amount of product.

Visit 4 · May, Jun

Round two of weed prevention so the barrier holds through summer, plus feeding and nutsedge control. On old pasture ground this is where we start pushing back on what is creeping in from the fence line.

Visit 5 · Jul, Aug

Summer feeding built for our heat. We use a slow‑release product so it feeds steadily instead of burning, and we spot‑treat the tough weeds that show up this time of year.

Visit 6 · Sep, Oct

Winter weed prevention, and this one has a hard deadline. It goes down after mid‑August and before September 1. Miss it and you get patchy, light‑green clumps all winter.

Visit 7 · Oct, Nov

Fall follow‑up. This is the visit that keeps sticker weed out of your yard, it sprouts in fall, sits unnoticed all winter, then stings bare feet in April.

Visit 8 · Nov, Dec

Lime, and in Nesbit it genuinely earns its place. This ground is sour, and sour soil keeps grass from using the fertilizer you already paid for. Fall is the right time to put it down.

Plans from $30.90 / Month

Or $46.35 per treatment. Every Nesbit lawn is measured and priced to size, which matters here, where the lot next door might be four times yours. Free service calls between visits.

Why Nesbit Lawns Behave the Way They Do

Nesbit is up on the high ground, about 120 feet above Walls and a world away from Delta dirt. Soft, silty soil that is easy to work with, sour enough to need help, and sitting on a hard layer roots cannot get through.

Your Soil Is Sour, and Lime Actually Works Here

Nesbit ground runs well below what bermuda and zoysia want. When soil is that sour, fertilizer sits there unavailable and you never get the color you paid for. Unlike out in the Delta, lime on a Nesbit lawn is a real correction, one of the highest‑return things you can do.

A Hard Layer About Two Feet Down

Under most of Nesbit the soil turns into a dense layer roots cannot push through, roughly two feet down. Water perches on it after a wet winter, then the shallow ground above it dries out fast in July. Puddles in February, brown in August, same yard.

A Lot of It Is Still Farm Ground

Nesbit has well over a thousand properties zoned agricultural or agricultural‑residential. That is horses, pasture, and bush‑hogged acreage, and a lawn that grew out of pasture carries pasture weeds with it. Bahiagrass and dallisgrass are already in the ground waiting.

This Is an Owner‑Occupied Town

Roughly nine out of ten homes in the Nesbit ZIP are owner‑occupied, and there is essentially no apartment housing at all. People here own their yards and keep them a long time, which is exactly the situation where a steady program beats a rescue.

And a Third of It Is Newer Than 2010

Nesbit is still filling in, about a third of the housing here has gone up since 2010. Those are graded lots with the good topsoil scraped off, and they need building back up, not just feeding.

Your Address May Not Match Your City

Worth knowing: Nesbit has no government of its own, and over the years Hernando and Southaven have annexed a good deal of it. A fair number of Nesbit addresses are now legally inside one of those cities. It does not change your lawn, it changes whose code rules apply.

What Grows Well in Nesbit

We sit in a stretch of the country where grass is genuinely hard to grow, too hot in summer for northern grasses, too cold in winter for southern ones. The good news is that Nesbit ground gives you more options than the low country does.

Bermudagrass

The default on open Nesbit lots. Tough, heat‑proof, and it fills back in fast. It is hungry, it needs steady feeding to stay thick, and it will not grow in shade.

Zoysia, Actually a Good Fit Here

Unlike the heavy ground out toward the river, Nesbit’s soil drains well enough for zoysia to do what it does best. Finer blades, denser turf, a little more shade tolerance. It is slow to recover from damage, which is exactly why prevention pays.

St. Augustine, Skip It

Mississippi State tells homeowners in counties that touch Tennessee not to plant it. Our winters are too cold for it. If someone is trying to sell it to you here, ask why.

Watch the Fence Line

On acreage that used to be pasture, bahiagrass and dallisgrass are already in the seed bank. Mississippi State calls bahiagrass a grass grown here more by mistake than on purpose, it moves in whenever good grass gets stressed in a dry spell.

The Timing Has Shifted

Our area officially got warmer a couple of years ago, and that moved the feeding schedule about two weeks earlier. If you are still going off advice from ten years back, your timing is off.

It was all weeds when I moved in, and after being treated, I have no weeds in my yard at all.

Nesbit Lawn Care, Common Questions

Straight answers on pricing, acreage, lime, and licensing.

Our program starts at $30.90 a month, or $46.35 per treatment. Nesbit lots run larger than the county average, so we measure yours and give you an exact number, free, and usually in a few minutes.

Yes. A lot of what we do around Nesbit is acreage, and we price by measured size rather than a flat residential rate.

Yes. Our plans run on an annual service agreement. Full terms, including renewal and cancellation, are on our Terms of Service page.

In Nesbit, usually yes. This is high ground with genuinely sour soil, and until that is corrected the fertilizer you are paying for does not fully reach the grass. We test rather than guess, but around here the answer is more often yes than no.

Because there is a dense layer about two feet down that roots and water cannot get through. Winter rain sits on top of it; in summer the shallow ground above it runs dry fast. Aeration and deep, infrequent watering are what help.

Yes, but plan on a couple of seasons. Pasture ground comes with bahiagrass and dallisgrass and a seed bank that keeps pushing back. Steady prevention beats one big rescue treatment.

Early to mid March for crabgrass, and after mid‑August but before September 1 for winter weeds. Those two dates decide how your lawn looks the rest of the year.

All of the Nesbit area, plus Hernando, Southaven, Horn Lake, Olive Branch, Walls, and Lewisburg, and we are licensed for the Tennessee side of the line too.

The quality of the service really stood out—my yard looks clean, fresh, and professionally maintained. The lines are crisp, everything was evenly cut, and they took the time to make sure the entire space looked polished. They didn’t rush the job and paid attention to the details, which definitely shows in the final result.

What I also appreciated was how efficient and respectful the team was while on-site. No mess left behind, everything was cleaned up, and they made sure the yard looked better than they found it.

Overall, excellent service from start to finish. Reliable, professional, and they deliver exactly what you’d expect—and more. Can’t wait until my next service provided by Lawn Jox and would recommend them to anyone looking for quality lawn care.

We greatly appreciate the service and attention to detail that Lawn Jox provides. We recently had some weeds sprouting up in the driveway cracks and asked if they could tend to those. Not only did they take care of those areas but they even tackled some of the areas in front of our flower bed that were starting to grow some weeds. We’ve been with Lawn Jox the last 5 years and are pleased overall!
